"Say it was a moment in history, and you could do something to stop the ecologically most destructive project on the face of the earth. Would you raise your voice or just wave it on?"

Honor Op-Ed Keeps Opposition to Tar Sands in the News

Winona LaDuke and our National Energy Justice Campaign Associate Nellis Kennedy co-authored an editorial published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune on the dangers of the Tar Sands oil and the corporate efforts to court northern Minnesota tribes to host oil pipelines through their reservations. Honor co-sponsoring Yankton solar training & installation

Several Honor staffers will be on the road this weekend, headed to the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota, where we are collaborating with the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center (NAWHERC) to sponsor a solar heating training and installation led by Henry Red Cloud of Lakota Solar Enterprises. The heaters will bring warmth during the harsh winters, cut energy costs and contribute to energy sovereignty for this reservation community. More than 25 tribal members from the Yankton, Santee and Lower Brule communities are registered for the training and hands-on installation workshop! Watch our website for our photos and blogs from the road! Read more about our renewable projects.
LaDuke to keynote Powder River Basin Summit June 18

We’ll also be headed to Billings, Montana mid-month for the Powder River Basin Summit environmental gathering we are helping to sponsor to protect the Basin from further coal, coal-bed methane and oil development. The Summit will bring together Native and non-Native allies to share information and strategies for countering massive fossil fuel proposals in the region. Honor’s been working with grassroots Northern Cheyenne groups for more than a decade to prevent coal development and the Summit will help grow this effort. The Summit runs from June 17th-19th and Winona will present the keynote speech the evening of June 18.
