Screening - 'Jim Thorpe, The World’s Greatest Athlete' (2009, 86 min, US) (New York premiere)

Discussion with the film’s co-producer, co-writer Joseph Bruchac (Abenaki) follows the screening.

Also, Join Mr. Bruchac, a renowned storyteller and Abenaki cultural preservationist, for a book signing of Jim Thorpe, Original All-American and Jim Thorpe’s Bright Path, a children’s book. NMAI shop, 2nd floor, 5 – 6 pm.

A look at the complex life of Jim Thorpe, the Native American sports icon, beginning with his boyhood in Indian Territory to his athletic stardom at Carlisle Indian Industrial School and the 1912 Summer Olympics, and the tumultuous events that happened afterwards.
