This time of year is filled with wonderful Christmas music and festive gatherings. The Cherokee National Youth Choir is a wonderful sound to get one in the holiday spirit. Cherokee Nation Veterans Affairs office is gathering homemade Christmas cards to deliver to the elderly veterans in the Claremore VA hospital. Cards can be sent or delivered to the Veterans Affairs office, in Tahlequah, until Dec. 17. For more information contact Rogan Noble at rogan-noble@cherokee.org.

The Cherokee Nation Three Rivers Health Center will be a featured stop on the 2009 Kelly B. Todd Cerebral Palsy and Neuro-muscular Center Holiday Parade of Homes Tour, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. each day.

Cherokee Nation Hosting Tobacco Cessation Class: 12/3/2009 2:38:00 PM

The Cherokee Nation will be offering a five-week tobacco cessation class on Tuesdays each week beginning December 8, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the Cherokee Nation AMO Health Center in Salina. The classes will run through Tuesday, January 6, 2010.

1865-66: Cherokees must negotiate peace with U.S. government. New treaty limits tribal land rights, eliminating possibility of Cherokee state, and is a prelude to the Dawes Commission Rolls and the break-up of Cherokee tribal lands by allotment. John Ross dies in 1866.
