Valentines for Veterans

Cancer Service Award

The Cherokee Nation has extended award nominations for the Cherokee Nation Cancer Service Award. The award honors individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions promoting cancer control in the Cherokee Nation Service Area by demonstrating significant achievement in cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, survivorship and quality of life, and cancer surveillance. New Children’s Choir Program

Cherokee Nation Makes Contributions to Two Rogers County Organizations: 1/28/2010 8:24:00 AM

The Cherokee Nation recently contributed more than $16,800 to two local non-profit organizations in Rogers County. The Will Rogers Memorial Museums received $10,000 from the tribe and Tri-County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc. received $6,842.

If you are considering a home-based business of your own, Cherokee Nation and Northeastern State University are partnering to offer a series of three workshops that can help you get started. “Setting Up Your Home Based Business” is the topic of the first workshop, covering the basics needed to operate a home-based business. It will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Sequoyah Schools recently received notification that it has once again maintained the high standards to achieve national accreditation. The school has been named an AdvancEd accredited school by the North Central Accreditation Association Commission on Schools Accreditation and School Improvement.

Cherokee Nation Partnering with Tahlequah Schools for Early Head Start Unit: 1/27/2010

The Cherokee Nation and Tahlequah Public Schools have joined forces to begin an Early Head Start program at Tahlequah High School, set to begin sometime in the spring. The effort will help teenage mothers at the school continue their education while their infants are cared for on campus.

Sequoyah Student Earns Chair in Honor Band : 1/25/2010 10:06:00 AM

Sequoyah Schools’ sophomore Christie Tiger recently auditioned and earned a chair in an honor band. Tiger is the first Sequoyah student to earn this honor. She will play the trumpet in the Eastern Oklahoma Band Directors Honor Band concert on Feb. 6.

Beulah Benton Edmondson Croker, a Cherokee and descendant of Sequoyah, led the first women's suffrage parade down New York's Fifth Avenue on horseback.
