The new Junior Miss Cherokee 2013-2014 is LaNiece Belcher! It was an
exciting competition this year with 10 entrants. Congratulations also
go to our newest little Cherokee Ambassadors: Alexis Snell, Chujah
Flute, Miah Summerfield, Nathan Lowrey and Sinihele Rhoades. You can
leave messages of congratulations on our Cherokee National Holiday

. It's also a great way to check on scheduled events and announcements
regarding the upcoming holiday!

Speaking of the holiday, we really, really need entries for the
Cherokee National Holiday Traditional Foods Cook-off! The cook-off is
on Saturday, Aug. 31 here in Tahlequah and the entry deadline has been
extended just a few more days to 5 p.m. on 8/21. More info: email

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker today nominated Chuck
Hoskin Jr. of Vinita to serve as secretary of state for the tribe.

Cherokee Nation car tags to be expanded statewide

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker and Oklahoma Governor
Mary Fallin signed agreements Friday that will allow Cherokee citizens
living in all 77 Oklahoma counties to buy a Cherokee Nation license
plate.

61st Annual Cherokee National Holiday boasts new events

The 61st Annual Cherokee National Holiday hits Labor Day weekend with
dozens of free, fun things to do, including a musical based on the
life of famous Cherokee peace leader Nancy Ward, a traditional
competitive stickball tournament and an appearance by professional
angler Jason Christie, a Cherokee citizen.

Nine Tribal Council members take oath of office

Nine Cherokee Nation Tribal Council members have four years of key
policy decision-making ahead, as they were officially sworn in to
office Wednesday during an inauguration ceremony at Sequoyah
Schools’ The Place Where They Play.

2013 Little Cherokee Ambassadors crowned

Cherokee Immersion School eighth-grader Sinihele Rhoades’
traditional story of the Cherokee water spider in both an English and
Cherokee translation earned her the title of Little Cherokee
Ambassador on Saturday.

Greasy Schools receive needed supplies, continued support

Cherokee Nation Industries employees are helping students at Greasy
Public Schools kick off the new school year by donating much-needed
school supplies and other items during a recent visit to the
school’s new elementary school building.
