Indigenous Resistance to Mount Polley Mining Disaster

Indigenous Resistance to Mount Polley Mining Disaster

Four days ago the Klabona Keepers and the Secwepemc exercised their natural law and set-up a blockade at the Red Chris Mine to ensure that their land is not poisoned by another disaster like the spill at the Mount Polley mine.  Two days from now over 125 vigils for missing and murdered Indigenous women will be held from coast to coast to coast.  Two weeks ago Indigenous organizers from Idle No More and many other groups joined together for a massive Peoples Climate March in New York.  These are just a few glimpses of the powerful movement that we are a part of, a movement towards self-determination and the protection of our lands and waters.  Read more below!

Upcoming Events:

9th Annual Sisters in Spirit Vigils - Saturday October 4 across Turtle Island
Each year, family members, Indigenous community members, and concerned citizens gather for a vigil on October 4 to honour the growing number of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. As we do so, we remember the lives of sisters, daughters, mothers and grandmothers tragically taken from us. The SIS vigils educate the public on the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, rally support, and compel the government to respond.
Vigils take place on Parliament Hill and in many communities across Turtle Island, as well as internationally.  See a list of the more than 125 vigils happening across Turtle Island compiled by the Native Women’s Association of Canada here.

Past Events & Updates:

Indigenous Adult Adoptees and foster care survivors gathering in Ottawa
For the first time ever, adult adoptees of the “sixties scoop” and foster care survivors  gathered on unceded Algonquin territory. An amazing opportunity to come together and talk, share and support each other on our journeys. Adoptees were astonished at how similar their feelings were, and more events are planned for Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The event was exclusively for adoptees and foster care survivors and created by adoptees/foster care survivors. It was a weekend of sharing, healing, tears, hugs, ceremony, talking, listening, eating and laughter!
Idle No More @ the Peoples Climate Week in New York
Dozens of Idle No More organizers joined hundreds of Indigenous leaders from across Turtle Island and beyond to gather at the Peoples Climate Week in New York.   Together we sent a clear message that Indigenous Peoples are leading the defense of our climate and that violence against the land begets violence against Indigenous women.  Check out the videos below or click here for the full Idle No More coverage of the Peoples Climate Week.
Idle No More organizer Erica Violet Lee gave a powerful speech at the opening plenary of the Peoples Climate Week and also spoke at an event titled: Native American Resistance in the 21st Century: Idle No More and the Climate Justice Movement.

Idle No More brought down a delegation of 4 Indigenous Women who are leading the fight against extreme energy and co-organized an event with the New School and FrackAction titled: #Frack Off: Indigenous Women Leading Media Campaigns to Defend our Climate.

Idle No More organizers and hundreds of other Indigenous Leaders from groups such as the Indigenous Environmental Network, the International Indian Treaty Council, and the Black Mesa Water Coalition formed the Indigenous Block of the Peoples Climate March. This block included beautiful banners from Idle No More Bay Area as well as a clear call to end C02lonialism and to respect Indigenous sovereignty and treaties.

Tomorrow- Wed 9/17, SEB Hearing to Quash Voter Registration Drive

Search on the "New Georgia Project" and you'll see that this hearing is likely to be highly politicized.  Democrats and others are claiming the New Georgia Project is being prosecuted for merely being successful in registering large numbers of likely Democratic voters, and that the intent of this hearing is to quash increased voter registration and voter turnout.  Hopefully the media will cover this hearing extensively and accurately.

Another Tuskegee? Whistleblower Admits CDC Lied About Vaccine Link to Autism

Another Tuskegee?  Whistleblower Admits CDC Lied About Vaccine Link to Autism

From: Cynthia McKinney

On August 27, 2014, a CDC whistleblower, William W. Thompson, Ph.D., admitted his role in a massive coverup that has had devastating repercussions in African-American male babies (and possibly others) who were administered the MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella) vaccine according to CDC standards. A CDC study found that African American boys had a 340% increased incidence of autism if they received the MMR vaccine before 36 months of age; the scientists remained silent and allowed the vaccine to be administered anyway. No more ethics in government; no more ethics in science. SHAME on the CDC! Where's Congress???  Individual families are only now beginning to sort out the implications of this fraud.  Incidences of autism have exploded in recent years.

Thompson wrote:  "My name is William Thompson.  I am a Senior Scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where I have worked since 1998.

"I regret that my coauthors and I omitted statistically significant information  in our 2004 article published in the journal Pediatrics. The omitted data suggested that African American males who received the MMR vaccine before age 36 months were at increased  risk for autism. "

Genocide Of Indigenous Kids

Genocide Of Indigenous Kids

From the Eagle Watch
March 28, 2014

Edmonton is currently hosting the 7th and final event for the TRC Truth
and Reconciliation Commission.  Yesterday was an Education event attended
by school children.  This is extremely ironic in the context of the
current issue over Indigenous education.  The gov still doesn't get it
that we want to run our own schools and we don't need their approval or
supervision.

"They came from across the province, more than 2,000 children from nearly
100 schools, to learn about a completely different era of Canadian
education. Edmonton’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission national event
opened Thursday with its education day, designed to expose children to the
history of Canada’s residential school program in a way that’s neither
traumatic nor graphic."

We would like to know how it is possible to hear about the legacy of
Residential Schools without being traumatized.  The revelation of the true
horror and INTENT is a trauma to Canadian identity.  The TRC is  a
whitewash that will desensitize young people to the reality which in many
ways is an ongoing program of assimilation, same ole same ole.

Look at the recent refusal of the feds to start an inquiry into the
ongoing deaths and disappearance of Indigenous women and girls.  They
continue in denial and this is happening every day.  There is a poisonous
atmosphere and huge spiritual bankruptcy in society today.  Let's face it.

Many of us remember well Harper's crocodile tears when he made his
statement which stopped short of a true apology.  He made it sound as if
it was a mistake, a slip up of some sort, rather than the true policy of
"killing out the Indian" that continues to this day.  He downplayed the
facts.

The only good thing about these events is that they keep the issue in the
spotlight.  What is revealed under this spot light is another thing.  It
looks like plenty of manure to start a grow op of say, medical marijuana
so that the Canadian government can collect taxes on a plant that grows
freely.  It's a control issue in psychological warfare.  The tears will
never stop while the lies continue.

Kittoh

The Way We Think

The Way We Think

The way we think has a huge influence on our world around us.
Job 3:25 "What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true."

Want to change the world? Look for that spark of God that was given to each of us inside you. Then let the Holy Spirit that is sent to help us, help it grow in you. If you help the Spirit of God grow in as many people as possible, the world will change. Not I but God guarantees it.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 "then man's dust will go back to the earth, returning to what it was, and the spirit will return to the God who gave it."

John 16:7
"Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don't go away the Counselor (Holy Spirit) will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you."

"God loves each of us as if there were only one of us." Saint Augustine

Matthew 18 12 ""What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?"

Proverbs 23:7 "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee."

Anybody that I have insulted, or harmed in any way or acted toward in a way that did not reflect Christ's LOVE, I apologize to and ask your forgiveness. (I am sending this out because God spoke to me in a dream about LOVE).

Elizabeth Penashue prepares for final walk denied visit to muskrat falls

From the Eagle Watch
February 12, 2014

Elizabeth Penashue is an Innu Elder and long-time Activist.

In the 2009 film below, the narrator tells that Elizabeth Penashue was
imprisoned on 5 occasions for her activism in defense of Nitassinan. I was
one of over 125 people arrested with her in Ottawa at DND in protest of
NATO's low level flights over Innu land. It wasn't enuf.

Now, her homeland is to be flooded for yet another energy development
project. When will it stop? When will Humans wake up? This is so very sad.

You can go to her blog to make a donation for her one last walk through
Nutshimit.  You can also send a message to the Premier to stop the
flooding.

Elizabeth Penashue prepares for final walk, denied visit to Muskrat Falls

Next week Tshaukuesh (Elizabeth) Penashue will embark on her annual
three-week trek into the Labrador wilderness for the last time.

The respected Innu elder and indigenous rights activist has also requested
permission from provincial energy crown corporation Nalcor to visit
Muskrat Falls, a place she says the Innu have hunted for thousands of
years. On Tuesday CBC Radio Labrador reported Nalcor had denied Penashue’s
request.

Last spring Penashue was set to make her last three-week trip through
nutshimit (the country), but her husband Francis fell ill and the couple’s
annual journey was cancelled. Francis, a former chief of Sheshatshiu Innu
First Nation and Tshaukuesh’s husband of 50 years, succumbed to his
illness in September, spending his final hours in a tent outside the
hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay surrounded by his family.

“Every time when I do something – canoe trip, and walk – he always support
me,” Penashue recalled during a recent phone interview with The
Independent. “I was leader but he was always behind to help me a lot.”

Penashue says this year her son Jack will help with the walk, and that
Feb. 17 will mark her final departure into nutshimit as part of the annual
tradition.

“I want to say goodbye. This is my last walk and I want to see last time,”
she said. “Me and my husband when we walk, he never walk,” she continued,
remembering her walks with Francis. “I walk with the people, but he helped
me (and) support me lots. He took all my stuff on the skidoo: tent, the
stove, food, everything.”

Though the walk will take Penashue, her son and others into the Mealy
Mountains to Enipeshakimau (Pants Lake), the visit to Muskrat Falls was a
top priority. Another of her sons, former Innu leader and Conservative
Labrador MP Peter Penashue, was a key player in the project moving
forward, but Tshaukuesh has steadfastly opposed the controversial megadam
for several years because it will flood and destroy Innu ancestral lands.
Last November Nalcor reported that over 40,000 Innu artifacts dating back
2,000 to 3,500 years had been excavated at the site.

“I really, really want to talk about Muskrat Falls (for a) long time, but
I had a lot of problems,” Penashue told The Independent. “My husband
passed away; I was so sad, thinking ‘what are we gonna do?’ I never, never
thought I would be old lady and old man, and one of them are gonna be
gone. And then I try (to) stay young, my husband then passed away. I still
miss (him) a lot.

“Then I said I feel a little bit better, and I better say something about
Muskrat Falls,” she continued. “And then I better go in the bush, in the
country, maybe (be) more happy, more strong.”

Penashue said before her husband passed away he was “very worried” about
the fate of Muskrat Falls. “He was very worried because Francis, when he
was young, this river, Churchill River, always we went in the bush in the
country, sometimes we went together, Francis’ parents and my parents, to
this river.”

Mista-Shipu to the Innu and Grand River to the Inuit, Inuit-Metis and
settlers who identify as Labradorians, Labrador’s biggest river was
renamed Hamilton River in 1821, after former Newfoundland Governor Sir
Charles Hamilton. Then, in 1965, again without the consent of locals, Joey
Smallwood renamed the river after British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill.

In Sept. 2012 Lake Melville MHA and Progressive Conservative backbencher
Keith Russell told CBC that local resistance to the project was misguided.
“[Y]ou have people talking about Mother Earth and sacred waters and, you
know, spirits flowing through these rivers. And that’s all well and good,”
he said. “But people have to understand too that there is a need for this
development.” Russell also dismissed claims the trail leading to Muskrat
Falls is sacred ground as “mumbo jumbo,” though he later apologized for
his remarks.

The people, thousands and thousands of years they hunt in Churchill
River. Now … I’m so sad, it hurts. It just broke my heart.  –
Elizabeth Penashue

The Nunatsiavut government has expressed concern that increased
methylmercury levels in the water will poison the fish, seals and other
marine animals the Inuit living in the Lake Melville settlement area
downstream from Muskrat Falls depend on as a form of sustenance.

Members of the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) have also vehemently
opposed the project. A total of 10 people, including NCC President and
former Labrador MP Todd Russell and several elders, have been arrested for
breaking an injunction during various acts of civil disobedience opposing
the damming of Muskrat Falls. They have yet to be charged, but their next
court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 17, the same day Penashue will set
out on her walk.

Penashue doesn’t talk about the differences of opinion within her family
or community, or the politics of Muskrat Falls. To the 69-year-old, who
was born in the country near Churchill Falls, the most important thing is
preserving nutshimit, of which Muskrat Falls is a significant part for the
Innu, Inuit and Inuit-Metis. Like most of the world’s indigenous
populations, the Innu’s unhindered access and connection to the land and
water are fundamental to the preservation of their culture.

“It’s very important; there’s a lot of stories (of Muskrat Falls),”
Penashue explained. “I remember when I was young, maybe nine or 10 years
old, I was very, very happy when my parents go in the country, hunting.
And everybody happy, the children very happy, and when my dad go hunting
brought some caribou meat, porcupine, beaver, all kinds of stuff, and I
was very, very happy and I helped my mom when she cleaned the animals.

“The people, thousands and thousands of years they hunt in Churchill
River. Now, just broke my heart when I see in the paper. … I’m so sad, it
hurts. It just broke my heart. And when I see the (news)paper in the post
office and I open (it), very sad what happened.”

To find out how you can join Penashue on her final three-week walk through
nutshimit, or to donate money or supplies to the effort, visit her blog at
